The nearest active senior club in Galway is in Ballinasloe where the junior club is also very strong, having won the Community Games 2007 and 2008 titles at U-12 and U-16. The Ennis club is very strong and competes in the Munster League. There is no Connaught League at present as there are not enough active clubs.

Monthly blitzes

The Galway Chess club holds a series of rapidplay competitions each year and all are welcome. Many of these are handicapped by giving the better players much less time (as little as 3 minutes for a game) which seems to equalize things and make for some excitement.

Keep informed about when the blitzes are on by signing up to our email newsletter by sending a blank email to news-subscribe[at]galwaychess.net.
