Accomodation Information for the Galway Chess Congress 2005

The Galway Chess Congress 2005, sponsored by Infopoint Systems is being held from Oct 7-9th at the Corrib Great Southern Hotel, Dublin Road, Galway. See sidebar for links to entry form and location.

The Corrib Great Southern is a modern 4 star hotel with top class conference and leisure facilities.

The Galway Chess Congress will be held in the Atlantic and Renmore rooms - see the Corrib Conference Centre layout for more information.

Room Rates at the Corrib Great Southern

The Corrib Great Southern (phone 353 91 755281) is offering the following reduced rates for the chess congress:

B&B (per person sharing, per night)	€65

When booking for chess congress, you need to go through Niamh or Liz only in reservations in the Corrib Great Southern Galway. If you can, please quote booking reference number: 2004644.

Please do not let them automatically put you through to central reservations in Dublin - they apparently know nothing about the tournament :-(

We've had reports that some people have rung the hotel and been told that it is booked out but that's because they have not mentioned the chess congress. We checked today (Sep 4th) and there are still a significant number of rooms available for chess players that weekend,

Other Hotels

The following is a listing of hotels in Galway city centre and on the east side of Galway. The nearest hotel is the 1 year old Kings Valley hotel (phone 353-91-761761). It's about 400 yards away. It will offer a room-only rate of €169 for two nights (for a double or twin) or €89 for one night.

Days Hotel (which used to be the Galway Ryan) is at 091 381200. This hotel is quoting adults at €79 B&B pps with €10 B&B for up to 16 yr old sharing with adult (that's €89 for one adult and one child per night B&B). Days Hotel is also offering a room-only rate of €149 for the 2 nights.

The Quality Hotel and Leisure Centre Oranmore is at 091-792244. It is offering a family package €69 pps per night with U-12's free. It also offers a room-only rate of €129 per night. Two nights B&B plus 1 dinner is €159. You would need a car to stay there - about 7-8 minutes away by car.

Other Galway hotels offering a room-only rate are: The IBIS, Jury's Inn, Travelodge and The Harbour Hotel offer per room rates (as opposed to per person sharing). Jury's Inn and The Harbour Hotel are close to the centre of Galway city while the IBIS and Travelodge are on the way out to the Corrib Great Southern.

Next to the Kings Valley hotel, the closest hotels are (in order) Flannery's, Days Hotel, IBIS, Menlo Park and Travelodge. Of those,only Flannery's and Days are in walking distance (as well as the Kings Valley).
