Location Information for the Galway Chess Congress 2005

The Galway Chess Congress 2005, sponsored by Infopoint Systems is being held from Oct 7-9th at the Corrib Great Southern Hotel, Dublin Road, Galway. The Corrib Great Southern is a modern 4 star hotel with top class conference and leisure facilities.

Location

The Corrib Great Southern is on the east side of Galway, on the Dublin Road into the city. See the map on ICU website for the exact location! Note that it is 1.5 miles from Eyre Square so if you're booking a city centre hotel, you'll need to get out to the Corrib each day.

If you are travelling by car from Dublin or Limerick, you'll be coming in on a dual-carriageway, past the Quality Hotel in Oranmore. About 1.8 miles from Quality Hotel, you reach another roundabout (called the "Martin" roundabout after one of the Galway tribes!). At that roundabout, you'll see a sign for Galway East and you should take that exit (the first exit) onto the R336 (signposted also for "Galway City East"). The Corrib is another 1.5 miles on the right-hand side of the road - opposite GMIT on the map above. It is highly visible as it is adjacent to the next roundabout after the Galway Crystal factory.

If you miss the turn off at the 'Martin' roundabout, you should continue on the dual-carriageway for 2 more roundabouts, until you get to the 'Morris' roundabout. Here, you can take the first exit left, which will lead you down to the Corrib Great Southern which is on the left after about 1 mile.

Galway Airport

The nearest airport is about 4.5 miles from the hotel and is served by Aer Arann and EuroManx. The Galway Chess Club can arrange to pick you up from the airport and bring you to the tournament hotel.
