Junior Chess competitions

Junior Chess Competitions have been run at the Galway Bridge Centre for the last 5 years. These competitions are now run by John Alfred who you can contact at 087-6794211 for more information or else read this flyer from John Alfred's website.

Each competition is played over 5, 6 or 7 rounds using what is known as the Swiss system. That means that, in each round, each competitor plays against another player on the same number of points (note that there is no knockout)

What basically happens is that if you win a game, you play your next match against someone who has also won their game. If you win 2 games, you play someone who has also won 2 games. Likewise, if you lose the first 3 games, you play someone who has also lost their first 3 games. In this way, everyone finds their own level.
