The 2008 HP Galway Chess Congress will be held this year from Oct 3rd -5th 2008, in the Salthill Hotel on the promenade in Salthill in Galway.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Hewlett Packard Galway and Failte Ireland West, there will be a prize fund of €4,000 for the 3 sections as set out below.

Please note that players with ratings within 50points of each rating band limit will be allowed to float up to the next section if they wish to.

For floating up to the Masters section, FIDE ratings will be accepted. Players rated below 1800 who have been rated over 1800 in the past 2 years may also float up.

Note that the Salthill Hotel is located on the promenade in Salthill which is to the West of Galway City. Drivers should allow an extra 30 minutes to get across Galway city to Salthill as compared to the Corrib Great Southern where the event was held for several years up to 2006.

Entry Fee

HP Galway Chess Congress 2008 - Entry Form

Entry fee is €45 for all competitions with discounts for full-time students, unemployed and U-16's. There is a further discount of €10 for all entries received by Sept 22nd. Note that, in order to obtain the discount, the entry fee must be received by that date.

Notes

1. Irish Participants must be current I.C.U. Members and must supply their own Board, Set & Clock.
2. No Player may win more than one prize. If an unrated player wins a competition, s/he will only receive 50% of the prize money.
3. FIDE Rules as per I.C.U. Handbook, 1990 & I.C.U. Allegro Finish Rules 1996 apply.
4. The Prize Fund may adjust subject to entry.
