Rapidplay Competitions in KnocknacarraNiall Murphy has been organizing rapidplay competitions for the past few weeks in the Knocknacarra community rooms - Niall can be contacted at nialljmtmurphy@gmail_nospam.com (remove the _nospam when mailing). The following reports are from the first two competitions. Last Wednesday evening saw the second Knocknacarra rapid play tournament organised by Niall Murphy and Bernadette Carroll. The tournament consisted of 5 rounds of 15 minutes per player. Nearly three hours later Pete Morriss won the 100 euro prize. Second was Lorcan O'Toole and third was Indy Banderjee. It was a most enjoyable tournament with some of the younger players making a big impression with their tough battling chess. A rapid play tournament of four 20 minute rounds was also held in the Knocknacarra community rooms on Thursday Aug 11th. It may have been the first Rapid tournament in Ireland to be run through Irish and English. It was won by Ennis Manager John Cassidy. Joint second were Dara Murphy and Indy Banerjee. Joint third were Lorcan o'Toole, David Cormican and Andrew Carroll. It is a sign of the times that three of the top six were under 16. Niall and Bernadette Carroll organised that tournament with Indy providing technical support.
