Galway Chess Club Simultaneous Display

At 7-30pm on Thursday 11th November, at the Bridge Centre, Yuri Rotchev has kindly volunteered to give a simultaneous display. For those of you who don't know him, Yuri is a 'master' standard player with a current ICU rating of 2366. He has competed successfully in the top sections of many Irish tournaments and has achieved many good results against both GMs and IMs.

The format for the display will be as follows:

  1. Yuri will play white on odd numbered boards and black on the even numbered boards.
  2. No clocks will be used.
  3. Each player is allowed up to a maximum of 3 passes. That is, if Yuri comes up to a board and the player is not ready to make his move, then the player is allowed to pass. A player may do this on up to a maximum of 3 occasions.
  4. Given the limited space and time available, there will be an upper limit of 20 boards.
  5. Players are asked to bring their own boards and sets.
  6. If there is time afterwards, we might be able to have a brief question and answer session.
  7. There will be a charge of 5 euro per player which will go into the club funds.

Given that this is an excellent opportunity for club players to 'test' themselves against someone of such a high standard, it is anticipated that the demand for places will be strong. If you are interested in participating then could you please e-mail Tony Aherne at taherne@eircom.net

Successful entrants will be notified by e-mail in due course.
